Numex Lemon Spice Jalapeno pepper is one of three varieties created through genetic crossbreeding in 1995 at New Mexico State University. This pepper is of low and bushy growth, with the stem reaching up to 60 cm in height. Its leaves are green, and the flowers are white. After transplanting, it takes about 65 days to harvest the first fruits. During ripening, the peppers transition from green to lemon-yellow color. The dimensions of the Numex Lemon Spice peppers are 6.5 x 2.5 cm. The taste of these peppers is fruitier and spicier compared to classic Jalapeno peppers. The peppers are suitable for pickling and can be used fresh in seasonal dishes, with the ones fully ripe and yellow providing the most flavor and heat.
Growing Conditions
Sowing time: Mid to late February
Light requirement: Plant seedlings in a fully sunny location without excessive shading
Optimal temperature for sowing: 28°C
Germination time: 7-21 days
Planting: Seedlings are transplanted directly into the soil or large pots at temperatures above 20°C, in our climate typically from mid to late May.
Required pot size: If planting in pots, they should have a minimum volume of
Spacing within rows: 45 – 60 cm between plants due to bushy growth
Spacing between rows: 60 – 90 cm
Watering: In the field, depending on rainfall, water at least once a week during dry periods. Water potted peppers as needed, ensuring the substrate around the roots is not dry.
Fertilization: After transplanting until flowering, apply foliar fertilizer (spraying over the leaves) once a week with a formulation of 19:6:20, and from flowering until the end of harvest, use a formulation of 15:5:30.
