The Quintisho chili pepper grows to a height of 45-90 cm. It has green leaves and white flowers. After transplanting, it takes about 70-80 days to produce the first fruits. During ripening, the fruits change from green to yellow (yellow-orange) color. There are also red varieties that turn from green to red when ripening. The fruits of this chili pepper grow upwards. Although this growth characteristic often describes ornamental chili peppers, this one is not classified as such. Of course, this doesn’t stop us from planting it in our gardens or pots exclusively for its beautiful round yellow-orange or red fruits :). The dimensions of the fruits of this variety range from 1.2-1.9 cm in length and width. They resemble small cherry tomatoes in appearance. In culinary applications, they are most commonly used dried and ground for cooking various dishes.
Growing Conditions
Sowing time: Mid to late February
Light requirements: Plant seedlings in a fully sunny location without excessive shading.
Optimal sowing temperature: >20°C
Germination time: 14-28 days
Planting: Seedlings are transplanted directly into the soil or large pots at temperatures >15°C, in our climate from mid to late May. Growth and development of the entire plant are halted below 10°C.
Required pot size: If planting in pots, use a minimum of 20L capacity.
Spacing within rows: 45-60 cm between plants (due to bushy growth)
Spacing between rows: 60-90 cm
Watering: In the field, water according to rainfall, at least once weekly during dry periods. Water potted peppers as needed, if the substrate at root level is dry.
Fertilization: From transplanting to flowering, apply foliar fertilizer (spray over leaves) once weekly using a formulation of 19:6:20, and from flowering to end of harvest, use a formulation of 15:5:30.
